Reports suggest Welshman is on the brink

Swansea City are preparing to sack Garry Monk following an alarming downturn in form, according to reports today.

After a strong start to the season that included a win over Manchester United, the Welsh side have won just once in eight Premier League outings.

According to reports, chairman Huw Jenkins will act now rather than risk the club's form turning into a deeper crisis.

Despite Swansea's difficult run, which was extended with a 1-0 loss to Norwich on Saturday, the sacking of Monk would still come as a surprise. Having been appointed as Michael Laudrup's successor in February last year, he went on to lead the club to eighth place last season, their best ever finish in the Premier League.

The 36-year-old is also adored among supporters having helped the club climb through the football pyramid to reach the top-flight as a player for the club.

Reports suggest the drastic decision to sack Monk has been reached in part due to his unwillingness to accept help. The club have reportedly been keen to overhaul the coaching system to provide him with more experience. Despite this being his first managerial role, Monk has been resistant believing any director of football type role would undermine his authority.

Asked in the aftermath of Saturday's loss at Carrow Road if the players still had faith in Monk, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski said: "Yes, no question about it."
