How was the season for you?: Chelsea

Tuesday, 13 May 2008

We've got the views of Paul Lagan - editor of chelsea.net.

But how was it for you? Comment at the bottom of this article and have your say on your team's season.

Who has been your best player this season?

Didier Drogba. Displays such as brace against Liverpool in Champions League – irreplaceable.

Who would you be glad to see the back of?

Andrei Shevchenko. Presence prevented young players gaining experience.

What was your best performance?

2-1 win v Man Utd could have been a title-winning display. Shame they did not produce a few more at home.

And the worst?

Home against Rosenborg. Home against Fulham and Wigan. The Carling Cup final.

Who have been your toughest opponents?

Blackburn. If Mark Hughes had our resources, they would dominate the league for many a year.

Best player faced?

Blackburn’s Brad Friedel.

Funniest/most bizarre moment of the season?

Watching Grant scratch his head after Steven Gerrard clattered into him in the Champions League semi.

Your perfect, but realistic signing?

A really top-class right-back is needed. I’d also take Kaka or Leo Messi for an extra bit of guile and scoring potential.

Any reasons to be cheerful going into next season?

Our English players will be rested. A new manager able to manage world-class players and not kowtow to Abramovich.

Reasons to be gloomy?

Yes, if the answer to the last question does not happen. Also if Lampard and Drogba move on.

Who will you support in Euro 2008?

Let’s all cheer for Spain – I love the country.

Overall assessment of your manager?

John Terry managed the side from the minute Mourinho left. Grant chose the team, but Terry made them perform.

And overall assessment of your team?

Reaching the European Cup final is a stunning achievement. We have under-performed in the League and should have won the title by eight points. Losing Mourinho’s preparations destabilised the side, causing erratic performances.

Best player: Ballack, Carvalho
Leave: Shevchenko
Best performance: 2-1 ManUtd
Worst: Carling Cup Final
Toughest: Liverpool
Best faced: Obafemi Martins, he never gives up ...
Funniest moment: Leaving Joe Cole out of Carling Cup final
Signings: Obafemi Martins, Frank Ribery, Gianluca Zambrotta
Reasons to be cheerful: we still have the best keeper in the world in PC
Reasons to be gloomy: Grant will prob still be coach, and no im not anti-semitic, he has no charisma and doesnt have the guts to make the tough subs that JM used to make when needed, may be a nice down to earth guy but he is no master tactician. I must admit that I do feel sorry about the way the press and fans treat him. Fans will never take to him though because of the conditions under which he was appointed. Firing JM has got to be one of the worst leadership decisions ever made in history.
Euro 2008: Germany
Overall assessment: I think Jose did the hard work, and Grant is still reaping the benefit of that, Chelsea can now play without a manager, wouldnt be surprised if JM still texts the players with tips! Joe Cole needs a smack in the head for the untimely showboating, JM would never have allowed it, Grant is too afraid to give the hairdryer treatment cos he is afraid of losing the dressing room.
Marks out of 10: 7, we should have won the league with room to spare.

Who is Paul Lagan? Does he even watch the side? As far as I can see Chelsea.net is an ISP not a fans forum. You should have gone to CFCUK or CFCNet to get a real fans view. Let me help:

Best Player: Ricci Carvalho. Others have had good patches (Ballack, Joe Cole)
Leave: Tal Ben Haim
Best Game: West Ham (A), but enjoyed Arsenal(H) and Man Utd(H)
Worst Game: Liverpool(H), Wigan(H),CC Final
Toughest: Bolton or Blackburn
Best Player Faced: Probably Torres.
Signings: Depends on who goes. I would prefer us to concentrate on bringing the youngsters through.
Cheerful: Reserves,Youth,Strength in depth, Abramovich
Gloomy: None
Support in Spain: Good football, whoever wins
Manager: Done surprisingly well. Stay on.
Team Assessment: We simply need to learn how to close out games and play to the 98 minute of each game and we will be back on top of EPL. We are already the top side in Europe (UEFA) and we still have the CL final to go so well satisfied.

Actor of the year: Drogba is an embarrassment to the club has the pain threshold of a flea and we'll be better without him.

Player of the year: Got to be Ricci Carvalho by a country mile.

Why play the best midfielder in the country at right back, JM was forced to Grant done it by choice.

Special mention must go to Alex: was there when needed and didn't whinge when dropped wrongly for a half fit Terry

what on earth are you on about?
1st - Drogba player of the year? no chance. Carvalho, Essien, J.Cole and Ballack. 2 good games doesn't get you player of the year.

2nd- Sheva has been injured all season so quite how he has held back young players i don't know. ben-haim has to go, nowhere near good enough for us.

John Yerry has also been injured most of the season so quite how he has ran the team i do not know!

i see this is one of the idiotic fans who like to moan no matter what. Jose lost games to you know! get over it, he has gone and back Avram.

rant over!!
