Hughes rages after officials' goal-line blunder costs QPR

Bolton 2 QPR 1

Luck is a factor those who are plotting their escape from Premier League relegation cannot take into account. Incorrect decisions are supposed to even themselves out over the course of a season, but try telling that to a furious Mark Hughes. The Queen's Park Rangers manager saw defender Clint Hill's powerful header clearly fly over the goal-line, but it was inexplicably missed by referee Martin Atkinson's assistant.

Rangers went on to lose a game they were in control of, thanks to a Darren Pratley header and a late Ivan Klasnic strike. Sadly, it isn't the first time they have been on the wrong end of ludicrous decisions during this campaign. Unfortunately for Atkinson, it was his team of assistants who wrongly gave Shaun Wright-Phillips offside against West Bromwich Albion back in December: a game in which QPR dropped two points from a winning position.

"To have that clear goal chalked off was a significant moment," Hughes said. "Do not underestimate scoring first as an away side. If we had scored then we would have taken the game away from Bolton because they would have had to come out and get back into it. So not getting a decision of that magnitude correct impacts on what we feel we can get in the game."
