International neglect spurs Woodgate on home front

The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jonathan Woodgate is content to concentrate on club football at the moment and is not anticipating an England recall from Fabio Capello.

Woodgate has fallen behind the Everton duo Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott in the international pecking order and has not been capped this season, despite being free of injury. When asked if he was hopeful of a recall, the 29-year-old said: "I'm not, really. It's just about the way I'm playing for Spurs. That's enough for me. I just want to win things. We are one point off seventh place and I fancy our chances of finishing there. We can do it."

Spurs will face the ultimate test of their improving form on Saturday when they travel to Manchester United, but Woodgate insists they should aim high. "We haven't been beaten by any of the top sides in the league this season and we have beaten Liverpool and Chelsea," he said. "Our record against the top four is impeccable."

The Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh is interested in a move to White Hart Lane. "My contract ends in one year," the 25-year-old said. "I am going to give the priority to England. That's the league I appreciate the most. I [am] aiming for a club below the big four, like Tottenham."
