Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Jack Wilshere's season is not over, and he will do "absolutely everything" to get him ready for the World Cup in time.

Wilshere suffered a hairline fracture to his left foot in the 12th minute in England's 1-0 friendly win over Denmark on Wednesday after a clashing with Liverpool's Daniel Agger, and played on for another 47 minutes despite his broken foot, telling physio Gary Lewin that he could continue.

Wenger revealed today that his midfielder will be out for eight weeks because of the incident, but refused to blame England manager Roy Hodgson, saying that there was no agreement between the pair over the amount of minutes Wilshere would play at Wembley.

"I expect him to play again this season," Wenger said. "There are 11 weeks to go, he will be out for six before he can absorb normal training. His injury will not stop him working on fitness so two weeks after [the first six weeks] he should be competitive. That means the maximum for him to be competitive in a game is eight weeks."

Wenger added:"I had no agreement [with Hodgson] over how long Wilshere would play."

It had been reported that the Football Association will face a £600,000 insurance claim for the injury, but Wenger said: "Our shock was losing a competitive player - the finance is not my main worry at the moment.

"You want to encourage him to go to the World Cup and I will do absolutely everything to help him get there."

Wenger also refused to put any blame on Agger, saying that the the tackle was fair, and the injury was suffered after an "accidental" incident. Wilshere will now

"I believe it was accidental," says Wenger. "He can only be very down in this situation - he will go away for a few days."
