After meeting with the Liverpool coaching staff, Brendan Rodgers has said he is keen to fully assess his entire first team squad.
With finances at Anfield being tightened this summer after former manager Kenny Dalglish was allowed to splash out on the likes of Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson, Rodgers is keen to asses what he has at his disposal before venturing into the transfer market.
Former England international Joe Cole, who impressed immensely for Ligue 1 side Lille last year whilst he was out on loan, will be among those players. The 30-year-old made 42 appearances and scored nine times for the French outfit.
Rodgers has already held talks with the player Dalglish considered surplus to requirements.
"I met up with Joe Cole when I was in Spain. I certainly know he's looking to come back. I've got to assess all the players," Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
"With the likes of Joe - he's a very talented player. He's obviously gone out to Lille and done very well and he has the opportunity to come back here and show his qualities.
"When a new manager comes into any club, it always sparks off that renewed motivation for players".
