Jurgen Klopp will have almost no time to meet Liverpool players and prepare them for Tottenham match

Most of Liverpool's players are away on international duty

Jurgen Klopp will begin work at Liverpool with only a handful of his new players present.

The German's appointment at Anfield coincides with the international break, which means that the majority of his first-team are absent.

As a result, Klopp's first few days at Liverpool's Melwood training base will be spent in the company of Liverpool's less established players and injured stars.

Among those competing with their national sides are England quarter James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Danny Ings. Belgian pair Divock Origi and Simon Mignolet are away and there is also no Mamadou Sakho, Emre Can or Martin Skrtel, who are away with France, Germany and Slovakia respectively. Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez are with the England Under-21s, Adam Bogdan has linked up with Hungary and Danny Ward and Joe Allen are helping Wales secure the point they need to qualify for Euro 2016.

It leaves Klopp with a threadbare squad to play with ahead of his first game, which will be the early kick-off on Saturday against Tottenham.

Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino remain on Merseyside after injury forced them to stay away from the national side. Other crocked stars who are looking to get back to fitness by remaining at Melwood include England duo Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge and summer signing Christian Benteke. Other first-team players ready to greet Klopp are Kolo Toure, Alberto Moreno and Lucas Leiva.

Those away on international duty will return at some stage next week, but with many not back until Wednesday, Klopp will with little time to introduce himself and ready his side for the trip to White Hart Lane.
