A charity has called for an investigation into the ages of the girls involved in the Leicester City sex tape that emerged over the weekend.
James Pearson, 22 – son of Leicester manager Nigel Pearson – striker Tom Hopper, 21, and goalkeeper Adam Smith, 22, can be seen in the video naked along with more than one woman.
During the footage, allegedly shared with friends back in the UK and obtained by the Mirror, one of footballers can be heard calling one of the woman a “slit eye”.
In a statement, Leicester said that the club were “deeply concerned” and the players “would like to convey their sincere apologies for their behaviour” having been flown home from the club’s end of season tour of Thailand ahead of the rest of the squad.
Premier League side Leicester City will investigate the incident, however there are also calls in Thailand for an investigation by authorities to check whether the girls were under the age of consent.
Chantawipa Apisuk, director of a sex workers charity the Empower Foundation, commented on popular Thai newspaper website Manager Online: "When you look at the recent Tourism Authority of Thailand commercial, they use Thai women to promote tourism.
"In that TV commercial the tourist loses his wallet and meets a Thai woman. The woman then looks after the man and they develop some kind of happy 'friendship'.
"Thai women are used to sell the country. We can forgive this incidence but the authorities should intervene and investigate.
"For example they should check if the girls are under 18 or not."
The age of consent in Thailand is 15, but 18 when applied to the sex trade.
