Liverpool 3 Arsenal 3 reaction: Olivier Giroud fears Gunners may regret Joe Allen's late equaliser in title race

The Frenchman, who scored twice in the 3-3 draw, admitted the dropped points could cost his side

Olivier Giroud voiced his fears that Arsenal could live to regret their failure to claim three points at Anfield after Joe Allen’s ninetieth minute equaliser earned a draw for Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger’s team had been set to move two points clear of Leicester, and five points ahead of Manchester City, after Giroud’s eleventh and twelfth league goals of the campaign had move them 3-2 ahead on Meryside.

But Allen’s late strike denied Arsenal, who visit Stoke on Sunday, leaving French forward Giroud admitting that the dropped points could prove costly in his team’s title bid.

"Hopefully, we are not going to have to regret this goal at the end of the championship,” Giroud said. “It is still a draw, they've done well at the end of the game and pushed a lot, but while it's a good performance, we could have done better.

"It is disappointing because we were 3-2 up. When you concede three goals in an away game it is hard to win.

“My first feeling is disappointment but we have shown some character to come back from 1-0 and 2-1 down.”

Despite their failure to hold onto the three points, Wenger insisted that the performance of his team proved Arsenal’s ability to prosper in the title race.

“I’m disappointed with the result but not the performance,” Wenger said. “We were 2-1 down, but came back and showed character.

“The frustration comes from having three situations at 3-2 when we should have made it 4-2.

“Conceding a goal in the last minute can happen in England, but this was a game played by two teams will terrific character

“This league is very even and very difficult for everybody, but there are more positives than negatives tonight and that will strengthen the belief that we can play in this league.”

Meanwhile, Wenger admitted that Alexis Sanchez could return from injury to face Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

“There is an opportunity that he may be in the squad on Sunday,” Wenger said. “He will have a test on Friday and Saturday, two important days for him, but it’s not impossible that he will be involved.”
