Liverpool fans started their protest against the club’s new ticket pricing plans ahead of the match with Sunderland after black flags were waved in the stands at Anfield in a demonstration against announcement for price hikes made earlier this week.

The opening of the new Main Stand stadium for next season will coincide with plans to increase Category A tickets to £77 for the biggest matches in both the Premier League and Europe, should the Reds qualify this season.

Fans reacted furiously to the plans and claimed that supporters were being priced out of attending home matches, although the club responded by insisting anyone who can’t afford a seat in the new stand will be able to purchase a cheaper seat somewhere else in the stadium.

But despite the club’s response, which came through managing director Ian Ayre, fans have planned to walk out of the stadium in the 77th minute to coincide with the most expensive tickets next season.

Ayre tried to remove the threat of a stadium walkout by claiming that 64% of tickets on sale will either have their prices frozen or decreased.

"No-one is being priced out of the stadium," Ayre said on Friday. "There is a seat for everyone at the right price.”
