Jürgen Klopp bemoaned Liverpool’s ‘luck’ for the second time in a week after seeing his side once again drop two points at Anfield.

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night, but only after believing Dominic Solanke found a late breakthrough.

The 20-year-old substitute bundled Joe Gomez’s cross over the line with eight minutes remaining but after an initial delay, referee Paul Tierney ruled the goal out for handball.

The ball initially struck Solanke’s chest and though he did not appear to intentionally handle the ball, a deflection off his left arm diverted it goalwards and past opposition goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Four days after criticising referee Craig Pawson’s decision to award Everton a late penalty in Sunday’s Merseyside derby, Klopp questioned the decision-making of officials again having seen his side stumble to a draw.

“For me it's twice deflected and I'm still not sure if the hand was with the ball. It looks like chest,” the Liverpool manager said of Solanke’s handball. “In the game it looked 100 per cent like chest.

“Afterwards I had a few replays, there's an arm but not sure if he touches the ball. Is it a penalty in the other box? I'm not sure, it's not on purpose, for sure not.

“Must be a really good assistant that made the decision,” Klopp added. “He will be happy probably if there was a hand involved. That's another moment where we had no luck, because if he doesn't see it or he's not sure as he obviously was it's a goal.”

Klopp was also unhappy with the officials’ decision to add just three minutes of stoppage time at the end of the second half.

“A lot of things around ref decisions feel not good for us at the moment,” he said. “We had the ball all the time but we had two offensive fouls before they had one foul.

“I don't get it but we cannot change it. I told him after the game, 3 minutes on a game like this, six changes. He said it was right.

The Liverpool manager added: “They obviously do what they think is right. We have to accept it, that's our life.”
