Martin Skrtel, the Liverpool centre-back, has suffered a fresh injury setback and faces two to three weeks out, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Skrtel suffered a hamstring injury in December and has not appeared since, but returned to training this week, only to suffere a fresh setback.

Jordan Henderson returned to the first team for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester City on Tuesday and he is likely to keep his starting place when the Reds host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Indeed on the injury front at least this has been a week of good news for Klopp, who said the returns of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel were akin to four new signings.

That may have been tempered slightly this morning by the reports that Sturridge wants to leave Anfield, having grown tired of his commitment to the club being questioned. Sturridge returned to first-team training on Thursday but will not feature against Sunderland. Take a look at our gallery, below, to see who is still out of action.

Meanwhile, youngster Jordan Rossiter told Liverpool’s official website his recovery from a hamstring injury is progressing well. The midfielder has been out of action since December but said: “I’m doing quite well, it’s progressing well at the moment.

“I think I’ve been out around eight weeks now, but I’m hopefully looking to be running around the next two weeks. It’s been frustrating but hopefully there are better things to come soon.”
