Daniel Sturridge has revealed some of the secrets of Jurgen Klopp’s training methods which have seen Liverpool storm to the top of the Premier League.

Klopp had a mixed time during his first season in charge, albeit with a squad assembled by Brendan Rodgers, as the Reds finished eighth in the league, 21 points off champions Leicester City.

However, in less than four months into his first full season in charge, Klopp has led Liverpool to the Premier League summit with his impressive football, as the Anfield side have scored 30 goals in only 11 games – more than any other team in the league.

And Sturridge insists the lack of European football has helped, with Liverpool’s double sessions with a strong emphasis on tactics appearing to be paying off.

“It’s very tactical based,” Sturridge told the Liverpool Echo.

“I couldn’t tell you the last time we played five-a-side.

“Maybe the day after a game, the players who didn’t play will go four vs four, but we never really have small sided games.

“We might do a shooting session but there’s a lot else going on with the passing that’s involved. You have to be on point. You need to be focused. You don’t want to be the one who messes it up.

“It’s very tactical, preparing for the opposition.

“In football, not may clubs do double sessions during the season but we have the opportunity to do it with no Europe and we can use that time.

“The first session is usually a bridge session for the second one. It’s more relaxed. The second session is more intense.”
