Uefa mistake Middlesbrough for Liverpool in Twitter gaffe ahead of Merseyside derby
We all remember Joseph-Désiré Job's stellar Anfield career, don't we?
Following Liverpool’s progression into the Europa League semi-finals last week, Uefa have had added incentive to keep track of all things Merseyside.
If one of their latest tweets is anything to go by, however, they need to start paying closer attention.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s 225th Merseyside derby, the team behind the official Europa League Twitter account decided to relive some of the red half’s highlights over the fixture’s 122-year-old history.
Steven Gerrard celebrating his emphatic free-kick in 2014 was included, as was Luis Suarez’s strike at Goodison Park a year earlier and an Ian Rush strike from the 1986 FA Cup final.
The choice of Joseph-Désiré Job scoring a late equaliser during a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in 2004 was, however, an unorthodox one – especially as he was playing for Middlesbrough at the time.
The gaffe - probably caused by Boro’s all-red kit, which only featured a slight white trim that season – was eventually deleted but it did not go unnoticed by Liverpool and Everton supporters.
Oh dear.
