Tottenham had Harry Kane to thank for leaving Anfield with a point, but the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday evening opens the door for Leicester to pull seven points clear of Spurs and take a giant stride towards the Premier League title when they face Everton on Sunday.

At one point it looked as though Spurs would suffer a defeat they could ill-afford, with Philippe Coutinho putting the home side ahead, although both teams spurned chances in the first half.

Daniel Sturridge, having been played in by Coutinho, could only hit the ball straight at Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, while Kane missed a rebound chance when a misunderstanding between Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren gifted the striker the chance to score, only fire the ball over the crossbar.

But Coutinho would break the deadlock soon after the break, having played a neat one-two with Sturridge before placing the ball past Lloris.

Spurs fought back though, and when Christian Eriksen did brilliantly to cross the ball from the left byline, Kane took one touch to turn before firing an excellent shot into the corner of the goal and ensure the points were shared.
