Why did Brendan Rodgers pick him?
There was a positive reason. Rickie Lambert is an international striker who has deserved his chance. There were also few options. Daniel Sturridge is still not match fit and the Liverpool manager wanted to make a point to Mario Balotelli by leaving him on the bench.
How did he link up?
Lambert is a traditional English centre-forward and not the kind of striker Rodgers would instinctively select. He showed his worth when he took down a long ball from Martin Skrtel and forced a fine save from West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Did he work hard?
There will never be any questions about Lambert’s work-rate. He is a Kirkby boy who would offer to swim the Mersey for his team. The acceleration of a Mersey dredger will, however, always count against him.
Will he stay in the team?
It is hard to see Lambert being anything more than a bit-part player at Anfield but as a substitute and impact player he offers his manager a distinct Plan B.Reuse content
