Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has reportedly turned down the latest contract offer from the White Hart Lane club.

The 29-year-old has held talks with chairman Daniel Levy over an improved five-year deal, having signed a similar-length deal two summers ago.

The club hope to tie him to a new deal having recently agreed a contract extension with in-demand coach Mauricio Pochettino and several leading first-team players.

The Daily Mirror report that the keeper is after an improved deal to reflect his status as one of the best keepers in the world, although the club remain confident of agreeing a deal before the closure of the transfer window in August.

The Frenchman enjoyed a fine season at the North London club, helping them challenge for the title until the final weeks of the campaign as they achieved their best Premier League finish of third.

Lloris kept 13 clean sheets in 37 league matches as Spurs ended the season with the joint best defensive record - conceding just 35 goals (in spite of their final day thrashing at Newcastle).

He had been heavily linked with Manchester United last summer as a potential replacement for David de Gea - who eventually remained at Old Trafford - and also with a possible return to France with champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Lloris joined Tottenham from Lyons in 2012 but intiailly struggled to hold down a first-team role, with veteran Brad Friedel preferred by the manager Andre Villas-Boas.

He made his Premier League debut against Aston Villa in October 2012 and has been first-choice at the club since the following month.

He will captain his country at this month's European Championship, having also led France to the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
