New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that having Sir Alex Ferguson at games will not faze him.

Ferguson’s presence at matches was seen as a hindrance for David Moyes during his troubled ten month spell as boss but Van Gaal says it will not bother him.

Talking to Dutch TV show RTL Late Night, Van Gaal said: "I don't mind if he goes to games. I put more pressure on myself than others ever could with me do. So I do not expect any problem with Ferguson."

The 62-year-old, who will join up with United after his World Cup commitments with the Netherlands are seen through, also said how he considers Sir Alex a friend.

"I'll probably go and get a drink with him [Ferguson]. We have done quite often in the past. We like each other.”

Van Gaal appointed Ryan Giggs, who took over as interim manager for United’s remaining games following Moyes’ sacking, as his No.2.

The Dutchman has made a good start to his career as United boss with claims and actions that will adhere him to the Old Trafford faithful and his comments about his good relationship with Ferguson are sure to sit very well with the fans indeed.
