During Sunday's win over Arsenal, Manchester United fans sang, for the first time in a long time, 'Louis van Gaal's red and white army'.

It came with their side 3-2 up against the title chasing Gunners with a team the smacked of Manchester United's tradition of giving kids a chance. Two goals from local teenager Marcus Rashford, who was making his Premier League debut and the appearances of Tim Fosu-Mensah, 18, and James Weir, 20, appeased the fans. And after Van Gaal's hilarious theatrics on the touchline in which he fell to the floor to simulate a dive had fans back on the Dutchman's side.

Yet despite the joyous circumstances at the end of a week that saw three wins and 11 goals scored, the chant signified that there remains some love between the Manchester United fans and their often-beleaguered manager.

For months it has appeared as though the former Netherlands manager has been certain to leave, with many having already installed Jose Mourinho as his successor at Old Trafford. However, while this one match is unlikely to single-handedly sway his still likely departure this summer, it provides a smattering of evidence that his relationship with the club could be repaired enough for him to possibly still enter the last year of his contract.

If he were to still be at the helm in August, it will probably be the match on Sunday that is remembered as the turning-point.
