Christian Eriksen’s late winner gave Tottenham Hotspur the edge in their top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Denmark international was sent though on goal by a lovely Erik Lamela through ball and kept a cool head to slot past Joe Hart.

Eriksen’s goal proved to be the difference in a tight affair that was ultimately won thanks to the organisation and fluidity of Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive side.

After a tight first half, both teams found more space in the second and it was the visitors who capitalised. When Danny Rose’s cross from the left hit Raheem Sterling, who had his back to play, high on the arm, a penalty was awarded.

Referee Mark Clattenburg’s decision to penalise the winger was divisive but Harry Kane made no mistake from the spot to put Tottenham ahead.

Motivated by a sense of injustice, Manuel Pellegrini’s men pushed on and applied pressure to the visitors’ backline.

Eventually, despite several key interventions by Hugo Lloris, they drew level through substitute Kelechi Iheanacho, who lifted the ball into the roof of the net from close range to equalise.

The youngster’s strike set up a tense finish, one that could have feasibly ended in victory for either side, but ultimately, thanks to Eriksen’s composed finish, Tottenham emerged on top.
