Manchester City expect Carlos Tevez to stay

Brian Marwood is confident Carlos Tevez will stay at Manchester City.

City's football administrator today revealed that planned talks between manager Roberto Martinez and Tevez may be delayed after the squad was unable to travel back from Turin last night, but stated his belief the outcome would still be the same.

"(The talks) will certainly happen, whether they happen today or tomorrow," Marwood told Sky Sports News.

"The statement put out earlier in the week, we've not wavered from that. Carlos has three and a half years on his contract, we've rejected his transfer request and he's come into training and been extremely professional.

"He's conducted himself very well, we're very pleased with his attitude and application, and I don't see that changing. As a group we're looking forward to Everton on Monday night."

Tevez made a written transfer request at the weekend, immediately rejected by the club.

The Argentina striker has scored 39 goals in 60 appearances for City since his controversial move from rivals United, and Marwood admitted he is a key player that City do not want to lose.

However, he also believes the issue will not unsettle City's bid for silverware this season.

"You can't deny his goalscoring record in terms of games played, but we have an important group that will stick together and we're very pleased with the characters and personalities in that dressing room and we've no worries about how they'll react to that news. They'll be extremely professional," he said.

"You saw no reaction in Turin that night and we don't expect any reaction against Everton on Monday.

"Carlos has got a huge part to play in the future of this football club. That was the case before he made his transfer request and that doesn't change after he's made that request.

"He's very popular at the club and with the fans and we're looking forward to him staying at this football club."
