Manchester City pursue Lescott
Everton's Joleon Lescott is on Manchester City's radar and of more interest to Mark Hughes than West Ham United's Matthew Upson - who was a target for the club in January but has not actively being pursued in this close season.
City have not bid for the England international Lescott, contrary to suggestions that a £16m offer has already been tabled, but Richard Dunne's likely departure to Steve Bruce's Sunderland reinforces the priority that central defence has become.
Kolo Toure is another prospect for central defence. City pursued him in January though after initially appearing interested in a move, Toure cooled on the idea.
David Moyes has insisted Lescott is not for sale but the player's response when the City links were put to him after England's game against Andorra last week suggested that he may be interested, as he he did not entirely rebut the suggestion. “We don't get the papers or see much speculation when we're with England,” he said “I can't stop the speculation, but obviously at the moment I am an Everton player.”
Portsmouth's Glen Johnson is not a player City are seeking to sign.
