Mario Balotelli may have been on the losing end of a 5-1 mauling as Manchester City sent out a title warning to their Premier League rivals with a comprehensive victory over AC Milan, but that didn’t stop two fans invading the pitch to get a snap with their hero.

The Italian striker was introduced at half-time following a 20 minute rain delay as severe weather hit Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, but he soon settled in to the game as he slotted the ball into the back of the net – only to see it correctly ruled offside.

Stevan Jovetic, Scott Sinclair, Jesus Navas and Kelechi Iheanacho put City 4-0 up inside the first half-hour, with Balotelli brought on by new Milan manager Filipo Inzaghi after the break in play following Sulley Munrtari’s strike to get the Serie A side on the scoreboard. The Italian striker was going about his business when two fans wearing AC Milan shirts intruded onto the pitch and sprinted for the 23-year-old.

Remaining as calm as ever, ‘Super Mario’ as he is known was more than happy to pose for a selfie with the two fans, who left security flummoxed as they waited for the picture to be taken before continuing with their attempt to remove the intruders. Eventually play resumed, although Milan were unable to stop a rampant City side as Jovetic added his second to complete the rout.

Of course, Balotelli used to play for City having left the club for Milan last January, and he took the chance to catch up with his former team-mates, which included Micah Richards as the defender also posed for a picture with his friend.

Richards has been linked with a move away from City in order to resurrect his career after a string of injuries and the form of Pablo Zabaleta has kept him out of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
