He can make world-class saves look supremely easy, but Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will enter uncharted territory this month when he grows a moustache for the first time in support of the Movember charity campaign.

“I’ll be playing a part in it,” he said, while offering no guarantees of what the end result will look like. “I’m looking forward to seeing what can happen this month. I honestly don’t know how it is going to end up, but I’ll see.”

The only thing he can promise is there will be no fashionable hipster beard: “It’ll be a strict ’tache, nothing else – I think everywhere else will be clean!

“It is an amazing cause,” he added. “Gillette are a massive worldwide brand, and for them to put their name to it is even better, as it brings the awareness of the three causes [prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health] that are being supported. The moustache is the fun side, it gets people talking, and as long as people are aware why they’re talking and why it’s there, it can be really positive.”

And he hopes it will lead to an important conversation in City’s multinational dressing room. “I don’t think any other players are taking part so, hopefully, this will bring more awareness – when it does get noticed I’ll explain exactly why I am doing it, what are the great causes and what good can come from this.

To help launch the start of Movember, The Independent on Sunday have exclusively teamed up with Gillette to give away 5,000 Fusion ProGlide Razors. Gillette, the world’s premier male grooming brand, are partnering with Movember for the third year with the aim of changing the face of men’s health, one Mo at a time.

Simply enter your name, address and email address on our website using the link by 23.59pm on Sunday 16 November and you will be entered into a prize draw for the razors.

The first 5,000 names, drawn at random from all entries, will each be sent one razor, which has a retail price of £9.99. Winners will be notified by email and prizes will be delivered within 28 days of the closing date.
