With the World Cup over, attention turns to the upcoming Premier League season.

After a hugely disappointing season under David Moyes, there is renewed hope at Manchester United. Louis van Gaal, who impressed at the World Cup with the Netherlands and who has a CV to rival any top manager in the world will be arriving shortly.

United will hope the Dutchman can get his ideas across quickly. A few big names have left the club or stopped playing, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Ryan Giggs no longer available. New signings have been made but there is still business to be done. Van Gaal will have to get them on the same page quickly, although will at least be thankful that their first major test of the season against one of the other title contenders isn't until the end of October when they play Chelsea

Here, we take a look at those who have arrived at the club, who might still be on their way and a look at their pre-season plans.

New signings

Luke Shaw (Southampton, £31.5m)

The young England international arrives with a reputation as one of the best up-and-coming left-backs in the world. His performances for Southampton last season caught the eye leading to his big money transfer to Old Trafford. Apparently returned to training a week early to get a head start for his new club.

Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao, £29m)

Having failed to sign the creative midfielder last summer, United didn't mess around this time and secured the Spaniard early.

Vanja Milinkovic (FK Vojvodina, undisclosed)

The 17-year-old goalkeeper is one for the future.

Pre-season plans

Manchester United are going on tour of the United States and will face some strong opposition as Van Gaal looks to instil his vision for the season ahead. They will play LA Galaxy before taking part in the International Champions Cup against AS Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid at venues across the USA. A few days before the season gets started they will play Valencia.
