Bastian Schweinsteiger has been receiving medical assistance from a former Bayern Munich medic as he steps up his efforts to return to full fitness.

The Manchester United midfielder was signed from the Bavarian giants for £6m this summer amid claims from Pep Guardiola that he is not in the right condition.

According to the Daily Mirror, the German international has been arranging for veteran physiotherapist Fredi Binder to travel in from his homeland to aid his rehabilitation.

Binder is expert in deep muscle massage and hopes to ease Schweinsteiger into an escalating training schedule. Louis van Gaal worked with the medic, as well as Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, during his spell at the Allianz Arena.

Schweinsteiger has made 111 appearances for the German national side, lifting the World Cup in 2014, during a career which has seen him win eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2013.

But he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes in the Premier League for the Red Devils as Van Gaal's men travel to Swansea City this weekend.
