Jose Mourinho looked ahead to Manchester United’s forthcoming fixtures in his programme notes for Saturday’s meeting with Newcastle United, despite suggestions that he could lose his job imminently.

Reports on Saturday morning claimed Mourinho would be dismissed as United’s manager this weekend, regardless of the result against Newcastle.

United have denied such reports, though Mourinho remains under pressure to turn the club’s fortunes around.

In a shorter-than-usual 161-word message to supporters, Mourinho previewed forthcoming clashes with Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea and “the super team” Juventus after the international break.

The United manager also made a point of noting that his side have more points in their Champions League group than any other English club, having beaten Swiss champions Young Boys and drawn with Valencia at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

“After today’s game we have two weeks, then we go straight into games against Chelsea, in the Premier League, and Juventus, in the Champions League, with two recovery days in between,” he wrote.

“For the moment, we have the most points of any English team in the Champions League, and it is a big responsibility for us to maintain that in our next group match against the super team, Juventus.”

Mourinho added: “With such huge games coming up later in the month, it would obviously be good for our confidence to end this current run of fixtures with an important victory this afternoon at home.”

United travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea on 20 October, while Juventus visit Old Trafford on 23 October.
