Angel Di Maria has aimed criticism at former manager Louis van gaal and Manchester United for his failed season at Old Trafford.

The winger, bought for a British record £59.7million in summer 2014, left the club for Paris Saint-Germain after just one year with the club.

Di Maria was sold for a heavy loss to PSG but has returned to the form that made him a star for Real Madrid, with Laurent Blanc's side already champions of Ligue 1 and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Speaking about reasons for leaving, Di Maria said he wanted to win things.

"Every time I was given the opportunity I did the best I could but it didn't work out," he told BBC Sport's Football Focus.

"I decided to leave, not only to be happy, but to win things."

The winger, who had four goals and 11 assists for Manchester United, also laid the blame at the feet of under-pressure manager Louos van Gaal.

"I started a game in a position, and then the next one I would be in another," added Di Maria.

"I scored goals playing in one position, and then suddenly the next game I was picked to play in a different position."

The form of winger took a sharp nosedive in January, when an apparent home invasion and burglary at his house saw his young family spend the rest of the season living in a hotel.

Not settling into life in the North West was often cited as a reason for Di Maria's failure at the club.

It's a reason with which the winger disagrees, however.

"It's more that they didn't let me settle properly than I couldn't settle," said Di Maria.

"I left a team that was out of the European competition and far away from being champions of the Premier League.

"I don't think it was my fault or the fault of my team mates."
