Manchester United v Sunderland team news: Javier Hernandez and Juan Mata start as Robin van Persie returns to United bench

Van Persie returns from injury but Wayne Rooney misses out through illness and a groin injury

Javier Hernandez started in place of the injured Wayne Rooney as Ryan Giggs looked to record his second win as Manchester United manager against Sunderland.

Robin van Persie was named on the bench after a six-week injury lay-off while Darren Fletcher, Nani, Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Hernandez all came into the starting XI.

Giggs left himself out of the match day squad for the match against the relegation-threatened Black Cats, who named the same team that beat Cardiff 4-0 last weekend.
