Manchester United need only a point to guarantee a return to the Champions League next season, though a share of the spoils would see them fail to leapfrog Arsenal into third.
Only Chelsea (46) have gained more points at home than United (43) in the Premier League this season. However, a disappointing 1-0 loss to West Brom last time out on home turf is cause for concern for Louis van Gaal and his United side.
Similarly, a 1-0 home loss saw Arsenal lose ground in the race for second. The Gunners dominated for large parts against Swansea at the Emirates on Monday night, but were foiled by former goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi.
Nevertheless, only Chelsea (38) have won more points on the road in Engand’s top tier this campaign than the Gunners (33), who have also netted an impressive 29 goals on their travels thus far.
Arsenal secured a memorable 2-1 win at United in the FA Cup earlier in the season, though the Manchester outfit had won their previous five home meetings with the Gunners prior to the defeat. There is plenty of bad blood between these two teams and this is likely to be a feisty fixture to cap off the weekend’s Premier League action.
