Manchester United kick-off their pre-season tour of China on Friday when they take on German side Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai as Jose Mourinho gets to grips with his squad ahead of the new season.

United face fierce rivals Manchester City on Monday in Beijing, but before then they must focus on facing the German Cup finalists and Bundesliga runners-up in Dortmund, who remain one of the most dangerous sides on their day due to their ability to counter-attack at speed.

The match is the first fixture of the International Champions Cup, the pre-season tournament that has grown to become one of the mainstay events on the football calendar, given it throws up a number of high profile matches to launch the new season.

For instance, United face Dortmund and City over the next few days, while Real Madrid meet both Chelsea and Bayern Munich and Barcelona collide with Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

But for United, and in particular their new manager Mourinho, Friday’s encounter against Dortmund provides another chance to get to grips with his squad and see who will fit into his plans, as well as allow fans to see new signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly following their summer transfers.
