Memphis Depay has revealed that he used to play with Manchester United captain before arriving at Old Trafford - on a video game.

The Dutch forward, who was impressive on his debut as United beat Tottenham 1-0, has revealed that Rooney was a favourite of his "on the PlayStation".

The £25million forward also spoke about his 'excitement' at playing for a club and his desire to win titles and trophies at Old Trafford.

Speaking exclusively to Marathonbet, Manchester United's new global betting partner, Depay was asked who he most looked forward to playing with in the United squad.

"I don't have one player, it's difficult to pick one player," Depay started, before adding: "But for example Wayne, it's a big step for me, it's crazy to play with him because a few years ago I used to play with him on the PlayStation and now we play with each other.

"That's the difference, I'm making my steps also."

Depay also said that he had settled in quickly at the club, thanks to his new team-mates and that being given the iconic No 7 shirt means a lot.

"I'm enjoying the time that I'm here, the training is going well, the players make it easy for me to settle. I get help from everybody to find mi place, to fill my confidence," he said when asked about his life at the club so far.

Depay says that "everything" attracted him to the club.

"Such a different club. Different history, [it's a] different level in the Premier League. I'm very excitied to play in the Premier League this year and very happy to make my debut."

On the No 7 he said: "Of course, for the example that was given to me has a big history - some great legends played in that number but also winning titles, the legends that the club has had through the years are inspirational to me."

"I've known [Louis van Gaal] for a long time, of course, I worked for him with the national team. It's the same as the national team. I'm enjoying it.

"We play for the trophies. The first game of the season we are happy with the three points but we have to improve, it's just the beginning of the season. We play for the trophies. Everybody dreams of winning titles and we want to achieve that."
