Middlesbrough come into the game on the back of back-to-back Premier League defeats after losing away at Everton and at home to Crystal Palace. They have five points from five games this season but face a tough task to add to that tally against Tottenham.

Spurs are one of only two sides yet to lose a Premier League game this season and despite scoring five against Gillingham in midweek, they face a striker crisis after Harry Kane damaged his ankle ligaments against Sunderland.

It’s a big game for…

Vincent Janssen. With Kane out injured for around two months, the onus will be on the Dutchman to provide the goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. He got his first goal of the season in the midweek rout but after netting 27 times in the Erdivisie last season many were expecting more than what he has shown so far in the Premier League.

Best stat…

Before his injury, Kane had made 71 consecutive Premier League starts and ran nearly 50km more than any other striker since the start of the 2015/16 season. He played 89.7 hours of football in all competitions since the start of last season.

Remember when...

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer had a game to forget in 2005 as he let Mido’s feeble shot roll through his hands and into the back of the net. There was nothing he could do about the opener though as Jermain Defoe scored a long-range screamer.

Player to watch…

Erik Lamela. Pochettino was gushing over his compatriot in the press conference for the ELF Cup game against Gillingham and Lamela controlled everything in attack. If Janssen is going to fill Kane’s scoring boots then Lamela will be crucial in helping him.
