Newcastle United: Clarence Seedorf ‘in talks’ to replace Steve McClaren

Clarence Seedorf is being lined up to replace Steve McClaren as Newcastle United manager, according to reports in Italy.

The club sits just one point outside the relegation zone after a torrid start to the season, with the pressure mounting on McClaren just 13 league games after replacing John Carver in the summer.

The club invested heavily in the summer, spending over £50 million in total on the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrović and Florian Thauvin, but after losing 3-0 at home to Leicester on Saturday in a dismal display have won only 15 of their last 62 Premier League games.

Calciomercato reports that Newcastle have already held secret talks with Seedorf, whose only managerial experience came in 2014 with an unsuccessful four-month stint at Milan.

However, the Dutch legend carries a wealth of experience and standing in the European game, as the only player to have won the Champions League with three separate clubs – twice with Milan, and once each with Ajax and Real Madrid.
