David de Gea and Nemanja Vidic start from the bench for Manchester United’s trip to Newcastle in Saturday’s 3pm kick off at St James’ Park.

Seemingly resting his key defensive players for the trip to Germany to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, David Moyes has called upon Anders Lindegaard and Chris Smalling to step in.

With Wayne Rooney suffering a toe injury in the first leg quarter-final draw with Bayern in midweek, Javier Hernandez, who scored United’s fourth against Aston Villa last week, also comes into the starting line-up.

Newcastle make three changes to the team that lost 4-0 to Southampton last time out. Davide Santon, Dan Gosling and Luuk de Jong come into their starting eleven.
