Newcastle vs Swansea City: Will it be a seventh straight defeat for Newcastle?
A look ahead to this weekend's Premier League fixture at St. James' Park
Newcastle host Swansea on Saturday afternoon with the Toon needing a crucial win to boost morale around St James’ Park.
The Magpies find themselves 14 in the Premier League, all but safe of relegation. However, a win would put them out of reach of the teams at the foot of the table as well as give the Geordies a much needed lift.
John Carver is having a torrid time since he took over from Alan Pardew and has lost his last six consecutive games.
However, the heat is mostly on owner Mike Ashley, who announced Newcastle had record annual profits of £18.7million last month; resulting in fans of the club organising a boycott of last week’s game against Tottenham.
The club reportedly had £34 million in the bank but failed to spend a penny in January – angering fans who feel the club is heading in the wrong direction and lacks ambition – adding further traffic to the website www.ashleyout.com.
Swansea currently sit eight in the Premier League but aren’t in with a shout of catching Southampton, Tottenham and Liverpool who are fighting for fifth place and European football.
Expect a hostile atmosphere at St. James’ Park – providing the Newcastle faithful turn up – especially if the result isn’t in favour of the home side.
