Manchester United have awarded a new contract to Paddy McNair after the teenager established himself in Louis van Gaal's senior squad.

Van Gaal produces dossier in bizarre response to Allardyce

The 19-year-old Northern Irish player has made 12 appearances for the Red Devils in a breakthrough season and has agreed a deal that runs through to June 2017.

United announced the new deal on their website, and Van Gaal said: "Paddy has risen through the ranks to become an integral part of the first-team squad. He has all the attributes to develop into a top player.

"Promoting youth players is very important both to myself and to the club and I am delighted Paddy has signed a new contract."
