Pep Guardiola has been linked with the Manchester United manager's job after Louis van Gaal retires at the end of next season, according to reports.

The Sunday Mirror have reported that while Van Gaal is grooming his current assistant Ryan Giggs to replace him, United club officials are looking at the Bayern coach Guardiola.

Former Barcelona coach Guardiola is reportedly planning to quit the Bundesliga giants at the end of this season, meaning he will be available to hire at the same time Van Gaal leaves.

Van Gaal said this week that he is building a United team for his successor, with the likes of Adnan Januzaj, Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial all featuring in his team, as well as Luke Shaw, although he is unlikely to play again this season after his horrific leg break last week.

"I believe I have a very good eye for young talent. I am a trainer-coach who believes in youth," said the Dutchman.

"When you see my career, you can see a lot of youngsters come through and when I’m not there, you have the guards of the club culture."
