Petr Cech: Arsenal goalkeeper saves Gunners from first-half Liverpool onslaught

John Terry said prior to Petr Cech's move to Arsenal that the goalkeeper was worth 12 to 15 points over the course of a season to any side he played for.

After his first Premier League match for Arsenal, Gunners fans could have been excused for thinking Terry was having them on. The Czech goalkeeper was at fault for both goals as West Ham stunned Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates.

However, Cech atoned for those errors in his very next match at the Emirates, the 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

The visitors to north London were fantastic during the first half, and by most accounts, incredibly unlucky not to be a couple of goals in front.

As Thierry Henry said at half-time, Cech kept Arsenal in it.

During the first period he made five saves, a couple of them quite brilliant. The first saw Christian Benteke appear certain to score - Brendan Rodgers had his hands in the air ready to celebrate. But somehow Cech got across to block the close range shot low to his left. Then, just before half-time, some exquisite skill from Coutinho saw the Brazilian create space before curling the ball towards the top corner. Cech incredibly managed to get his finger tips to it and push it onto the post.

When asked to pick his favourite of the two saves after the match, Cech said: "Probably the first one."

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Cech expressed his pleasure at his turnaround from the first match.

"The first game was the opposite of this one. You need to go back to work. Today it was one of those game where I was in the right place and the right times."

He added: It's hard to believe after all the chances there were no goals in the game."
