Brendan Rodgers has claimed that a number of his players could have won the Player of the Month award after Liverpool secured a clean sweep of the Premier League monthly accolades.

Rodgers was named the Manager of the Month for March and stood proudly with his trophy alongside Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarrez, who shared the Player of the month gong after the Reds rose to the summit of the Premier League.

The pair become just the sixth pair to share the award, while Rodgers picks up the manager’s accolade for a second time this season having claimed it back in August, and a third overall after he was awarded the trophy while with Swansea City in January 2012.

Rodgers told liverpoolfc.com: “I've got to be honest, there are probably a number of players in the Liverpool team that could have had the award.

“But for the two guys, it is great reward for their efforts. Luis has been incredible in that period, with his goalscoring and relentless work-rate.”

Gerrard and Suarez have been instrumental in in Liverpool’s nine-match unbeaten run that has given them a genuine shot at a first top-flight title since 1990.
