Premier League: Swansea City vs Everton match preview
A look ahead to this weekend’s Premier League fixture at the Liberty Stadium
Friday 20 December 2013
Swansea will look to make the most of a break from the Europa League from now until the next round in February, where they will host Napoli, and will hope to strengthen their domestic form. The Welsh outfit have not lost in their last three games but they would have liked to have secured more than just a point in the games against Hull and Norwich.
Michael Laudrup continues to instil an entertaining style of play into his team as they currently sit 10th in the Premier League. However, if they are going to challenge for a place in Europe next year then they cannot afford to keep drawing against the teams below them in the table.
It will most certainly be a tough test for the Swans, who will come up against an in form Everton side who have not lost in their last nine games, beating the likes of Manchester United and drawing to Arsenal.
Former Swansea manager and player Roberto Martinez has put together a team that is proving extremely hard to beat. Several new signings that were made during the summer break have made a huge impact at Goodison Park, notably Romelo Lukaku (on loan from Chelsea), who has scored eight times for the Toffees already this season. Another of those who have impressed is youngster Ross Barkley, who, due to his current form, is getting closer to grabbing himself a ticket to the World Cup in Brazil next year.
The Merseysiders will also be happy to welcome back midfielder James McCarthy who returns from suspension. Swansea are without goalkeeper Michael Vorm, who underwent knee surgery on Thursday, while winger Nathan Dyer remains out with an ankle ligament injury.
