Former Tottenham boss Juande Ramos insists he has an "excellent relationship" with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Ramos, who was sacked at White Hart Lane last October and is now at Real Madrid, has released a statement following reports of a disagreement with Levy over transfer policy and the reasons behind the sale of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane in the summer.

"I understand that my comments regarding the sale of Keane and Berbatov have been misrepresented in the UK press," he said in the statement.

"For the record Daniel Levy did not sell these players to make money. They were sold for footballing reasons. The players wanted to change teams because they had the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

"During my time at Tottenham I always received support from the chairman regarding sporting decisions to make Spurs an even greater team: I maintain an excellent relationship with him and I am convinced that he is doing everything he can to lead Spurs to a successful future."
