Remi Garde ready to quit Aston Villa after club fails to strengthen squad in January

Frenchman has been in charge for only 15 matches

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde may well consider quitting the Midlands club after they missed out on every one of their transfer targets.

The Fenchman, who has only been in charge 15 matches, expressed his frustration as the club failed to bring in a single play during the window.

Garde had been promised money to spend to improve Villa, rock bottom of the Premier League and 10 points from safety, but failed to see one new face arrive.

Villa had been linked with Seydou Doumbia, Loic Remy, Steven Naismith, Gokhan Inler, Mathieu Debuchy and a number of other players but none arrived.

Now he has admitted he will consider his future at the end of the season.

"It was not as clear as maybe when I signed but it’s something that I don’t want to discuss too much," he said. "As a new manager I would have expected new faces to support my change.

"We missed these targets. It’s unfortunate."

The former Lyon manager didn't go as far as saying he had been let down by owner Randy Lerner, chairman Steve Hollis or chief executive Tom Fox, but added:

"It’s always difficult with players in the transfer window because sometimes you cannot sign them because of the situation where the club is.

"Sometimes financially they want too much money and sometimes they choose another challenge.

"To be fair we should have signed a goalkeeper. The deal was okay with the club, with the player – we were denied the work permit.

"It was a big disappointment.

"Also for a striker I tried to sign many but for different reasons they chose other clubs."
