Southampton v Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Thomas Vermaelen return but Jack Wilshere is a doubt

Welsh midfielder has been out since Boxing Day with a thigh problem

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Aaron Ramsey could make his return from injury after a month out in Tuesday night's game at Southampton, but Jack Wilshere is a doubt.

Ramsey, who has scored 15 goals for club and country this season has been out since Boxing Day with a thigh problem, but Wenger has now claimed that he will be ready to return at St Mary's tomorrow, alongside Mikel Arteta (calf) and captain Thomas Vermaelen (knee), but Wilshere (ankle) may miss out.

"We have a doubt about Wilshere, but Ramsey, Arteta and Vermaelen are back in the squad," Wenger said in his press briefing on Monday.

It would be the 150th league appearance of Ramsey's career if he plays.

However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the former Southampton midfielder, could join Wilshere on the sidelines. The 20-year-old is still getting back to full fitness after five months out injured.

"He is not fully fit but he is getting closer," Wenger said. "I haven't decided whether he will start tomorrow."

Wenger also revealed that talks are ongoing to extend right-back Bacary Sagna's contract, which runs out in the summer. The 30-year-old has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco.

"We try to secure Sagna because he is a very important player" he said. "He is fully committed and will be as long as he stays here."
