Steven Whittaker injured as Norwich beat Celtic in pre-season friendly
Wednesday 25 July 2012
Norwich's 1-0 friendly win over Celtic at Parkhead last night came at a price when new signing Steven Whittaker limped off in the first half with an ankle injury.
Grant Holt's last-gasp strike from close range after Hoops keeper Fraser Forster had blocked a drive from Jonathan Howson was enough to separate the sides in what had been an open game with chances created and missed at both ends.
However, Canaries manager Chris Hughton was concerned about the former Rangers defender who went straight up the tunnel.
He said: "We will find out over the next couple of days. What he has done is rock his ankle.
"We are hoping it is not going to be too bad but generally with these things, you don't know until the next couple of days when you see how it settles down.
"But we are hoping he is not going to be too bad.
"He has settled in really well but it would be a blow, whether it is Steven or anyone at this stage to be without them for whatever period."
Hughton revealed there was no progress in his pursuit of Leeds United's Robert Snodgrass but insists he is still looking to strengthen his squad.
Leeds confirmed last week they had rejected an initial City offer for the Scotland international.
Hughton said: "We did put a bid in for him a week or go and that is where we are at.
"He is a player we would like, hence the reason we made the bid but of course he is a Leeds United player and until we are told otherwise that will be the case.
"I would like to strengthen the squad but it has to be the right player because we have a good squad with good morale and good mentality, as showed last season.
"It is important that the right player will enhance what we've got and give us the right competition in the right areas."
