With Steven Gerrard making his final appearance for Liverpool, he and his team-mates would have been wanting to sign-off with a good result against Stoke City.
However, things went terribly wrong at the Britannia Stadium.
With contract rebel Raheem Sterling relegated to the bench by Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool found themselves 1-0 down after 22 minutes when Mame Biram Diouf found the back of the net. Four minutes later Diouf got his and Stoke's second.
Jonathan Walters then made it 3-0 after 30 minutes and then Charlie Adam made it 4-0. Just before half-time Steven N'Zonzi made it 5-0.
The scoreline meant Stoke were the first team to score five goals against Liverpool in a league game since Coventry in December 1992.
Liverpool have never lost a Premier League game by five or more goals.Reuse content
