Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with taxi company Uber over naming rights for the club’s new stadium.

Spurs are set to complete their £700m redevelopment of White Hart Lane in 2018 and are looking to recoup some of their investment by selling the naming rights for £20-25m.

According to Squawka, Tottenham opened talks with the taxi app giant in July, with the club hoping to secure a long-term naming rights partner for the revamped 61,000-seater stadium.

Spurs are keen to secure a partner with a globally-recognised brand, with Uber expanding to become the world leader of the on-demand transport service market.

However, Uber are not the only company Spurs have spoken to in relation to the naming rights, with the club’s ideal partner sponsoring the stadium for between six and 15 years.

Uber reportedly made losses £1bn in the first half of this year but is still valued at £56.5bn.

One of the leading contenders is the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), who have funded Paris Saint-Germain to four consecutive Ligue 1 titles and are looking to expand their brand ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Aside from selling the naming rights, Spurs are looking to raise revenue by hosting NFL matches with the ground being designed to include American football facilities and a retractable pitch.

The club are confident these measures will secure them the right to host two NFL matches per year and they also want to be the home of a London-based NFL franchise, should the league decide to launch a team in the UK.
