Tottenham's failure to sign a new striker means new coach Andre Villas-Boas will give youngster Harry Kane a chance.
The manager has no choice but to start Jermain Defoe up front at Newcastle today and put 19-year-old Kane on the bench. The youngster's presence could only be temporary before a reputable forward arrives, most probably Emmanuel Adebayor, by the end of the month, but Villas-Boas insists Kane will be given a chance. He said: "He will be part of our plans this season".
Tottenham are today without Scott Parker (Achilles) and Real Madrid-bound Luka Modric.
