Vincent Kompany has a 'good feeling' he will remain fit after making return for Manchester City
The Citizens beat West Brom 3-2 at the Hawthorns
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says he feels in good shape following his return to the squad against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
The Belgian international has been side-lined for the last two months with a thigh injury, with City having struggled defensively in his absence.
Kompany admits that his last return to the Manchester City team was somewhat premature, and is hoping that he will remain injury free as the Premier League’s busiest period nears: “I should kick myself sometimes for always wanting to come back a bit too early,” Kompany said.
“My head can promise but my body can’t. I want to be back for as long as I can.
“For me it’s a tricky thing to talk about. You try to prepare and do everything right and as much as I feel great right now, there’s only so much you can do. But I have a good feeling this time.”
Kompany has also dismissed talk that City’s defensive fragility has been solely down to his absence, and says he is not interested in being the hero at the back: “There’s no such thing as coming back and being the hero for me,” he added.
“It’s the biggest mistake you can make to think that you can return and be the hero.
“I’ve just had to slot into the team and make sure I can help and I’m a team player just trying to do my best.
“When the team performs well it helps you. It’s an important period for the club because December is massive.”
