Premier League strugglers West Brom welcome Arsenal to The Hawthorns in a tough fixture for Alan Pardew’s side. Having failed to win in the league since the second week of the season, West Brom find themselves second from bottom and three points adrift of safety.

Three draws and a loss in December have seen Arsenal fall to sixth in the league, though they remain only one point from the Champions League places. Arsene Wenger will have been pleased to see his side overcome a resilient Crystal Palace in the week and will be confident of picking up three points on Sunday.

Influential West Brom midfielder Nacer Chadli has had a set-back in his recovery from a hip injury and is now expected to be out until March. Pardew has spoken of his desire to find a replacement for the Belgian in the January transfer window, and will hope whoever he signs has a significant impact on the club’s ineffectual attack.

Nacho Monreal is unavailable for Arsenal with an ankle injury, with Calum Chambers likely to continue to deputise in his absence. French striker Olivier Giroud is also out until mid-January with a hamstring injury while midfielder Aaron Ramsey nears a return to action after suffering a hamstring injury two weeks ago.

It’s a big game for…

Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan has only found the back of the net three times this season, in a team that has scored 14 times this season. While his side have struggled to create chances the centre forward will know he is capable of better. Pardew will look to add goals to his side in the January transfer window and Rondon’s place in the side is certainly under pressure.

West Brom have won their two previous home encounters against Arsenal - a repeat result here would do the Baggies a world of good.

Player to watch…

Jack Wilshere. After years of frustration through injury, the England midfielder has started Arsenal’s last four games, and with a man-of-the-match performance against Crystal Palace in midweek, he looks to be returning to his best. The energy and guile of Wilshere has also produced assured displays from his midfield partner Granit Xhaka in recent weeks.
